Chris Moore |
| n |
|
As a teenager, Chris Moore played drums in the band Negative Approach. Moore went from hardcore drummer to Americana front man of Detroit's Crossed Wire in the '90s. But it's Moore's recent solo work that shows the full flowering of his wide-ranging talents. Moore cultivates a kind of tension in his songwriting - through crunchy dissonances, and sharp lyrical turns - that one normally doesn't associate with the singer/songwriter name tag. |

| Moore's 6th cd (2nd with the Sons).
Using a loose recording approach, and minimal overdubs, the results are colorful and spontaneous, very "live", each tune a different groove, stitched together by Moore's somewhat serious, sometimes funny lyrical meditations...

Us Fools
| Us Fools is a rich set of rustic chamber pop, with Moore's wry, conversational vocal to the fore. ...a hearty, satisfying album that seduces listeners into its bucolic, achingly orchestrated world. - Stevie Chick, Mojo Moore's fifth cd, though a first with his band, the Sons, Us Fools is an exemplary show of shared commitment not only to a band as an entity but also to their musically eclectic reach. Aside from Moore on guitar, piano, & lead vox; Gary Langol, double bass, organ, piano; Adam... More>>> |

Figurines
|
What makes Moore's latest
disc, Figurines, worthy of a careful and
considered listen is the folding together of a unique voice, Moore's
eye for poetic detail as a songwriter, and the understated confidence
of his music. The warm hum of the organ, the pining sound of slide
guitar and sweet, sad harmonies all serve the songs here. So too does
the album art, which Moore does himself.

Joy and Abandon
|
(Drawing Room)
The title track of Joy and
Abandon is a melancholy-sounding number in
a slow waltz time that somehow manages to bring across a sense of
both. Further on in the record, Moore uses one of his brightest
meoldies for the chorus "You're gonna make the same mistake, over and
over." Never one to do things the easy way, Moore has come up with a
pleasingly offbeat collection of songs that take the long way around,
showing you the back side of the emotional... More>>> |
