"Casey Neill is at once musician , writer, musicologist and student and he does his homework. Live performance may well be the best
introduction to Casey and the trio. There's the palpable tension of an audience on the edge of their seats and the release of the transition from jig to reel. These are songs with stories well told. This is what it's all about." - Steve Earle
"When I first heard Casey Neill ten years ago, I was struck by his ability to write songs on political and environmental themes which drove home a message without becoming overbearing or didactic, and by his commanding stage presence and singing voice. Since then, he has honed those skills marvellously. While he is still writing topical songs, he is no longer a 'political songwriter', but a writer whose range includes the political, the personal, and the combination of the two which is always the most revealing. His live performances, whether solo, with the Casey Neill Trio, or with other combinations of players, always electrify." -Jon Kiparsky |

Kilgrain" fit squarely side by side, and hearing the two back to back
reveals just how much they share in their style and flavor. Casey's
song "Hallowed Be Thy Ground" evokes the beauty of the old... More>>> |

Portland West
|
(Appleseed)
Portland West was recorded
in the St. Johns Pub in Portland, Oregon,
once a center for acoustic music and now a movie theater. Casey\'s
original songs are accompanied by Hanz Araki\'s flute and whistles,
and Zak Borden\'s mandolin. This combo had been playing together for
several years at the time of recording and this live set shows the
easy cohesion of a seasoned performing unit.
