From the San Francisco Bay area, singer-songwriter Tom Payne works as
in-house carpenter at Genentech. Payne's songs are Socratic, gentle,
often sentimental, occasionally playful, serious without pretension.
A strong natural singing voice and accomplished, flowing guitar style
place Tom's work firmly in the folk tradition, but with a distinctly
urban perspective.
"The Grapes of Wrath-like landscape is not bleak, because Payne finds
the kernel of peace and beauty in each person in his songs, and
treats them with respect and humor." -Mike Devlin Music Matters Review
"Payne's warm voice and strong
fingerpicked guitar style fully engulf
the listener in the self contained world of each song. Subject matter
runs the gamut from homelessness to decpetive advertising to
reminiscences of one's home town and character sketches of relatives
and neighbors. Accompaniment is sparse and tasteful and the
production is crystal clear. ... I can't imagine anyone being
disappointed in this recording. My highest recommendation."
