Michael Troy was born and raised in the rough-and-tumble mill town of
Fall River, Massachusetts. Having spent parts of his life as a
textile worker, a fisherman out of Narragansett Bay, floor finisher,
and laborer in Simi Valley, and most of his adult years as a husband
and father, Michael has traveled many paths. The experience and
wisdom he's gleaned along the way echoes through his songs. In 1998,
while undergoing treatment for lymphoma, Michael moved "from the road
of least resistance, to the road one chooses". The CD he released
that year, "Whispers in the Wind," created a sensation among
followers of folk music that's still reverberating.
"Michael Troy's songs are packed with insight, poetry, and the
unbridled energy of true religion. He's an amazing, essential artist.
I'm reminded of when I discovered Joseph Conrad's novels thirty years
ago."

Mill Town Boy
| "Michael Troy's songs tell the stories of people we recognize instantly. Mined from wisdom and experience hard-won, his language and poetry reveal true meaning sifted from raw fact, and, like our best songwriters, he leads us to revelations about ourselves. This is a songwriter who bears repeated listening."
-Geoff Bartley

"...a collection of some of the sweetest, toughest, most poignant and
insightful songs you'll hear."
- Marilyn Rea-Beyer, WUMB
"From the Watuppa Pond,
- where the water spills
Into the Quequechan River, - down a granite hill
Under the Cotton Kings, - from the stone cutters hands
Rose the four hundred mills, - on promised land.
Now the river's been buried, - and the mills shut down
And the people got poor, - and the rich left... More>>> |

Whispers in the Wind
|
Troy's solo career began
during a series of open mike performances at
Passim in Cambridge several years ago. Many of the songs that evolved
during that period-some written as long as 20 years ago, make up the
core of "Whispers in the Wind", a simple guitar and voice recording.
"Whispers in the Wind" is filled with references to the mills, the
fishermen and the once-vibrant young men who gradually wore
themselves out on the docks, in bars and on factory floors. Songs
