Vivian's Keeper |
 |
|
| "Music for tortoises in a hare's world"
Three singers, three writers, three multi-instrumentalists. One trio.
Northwest native, Southern-born traveler, and California emigrant
bridge distant musical backgrounds to form a whole greater than the
sum of the parts. An unorthodox approach to playing, poetic lyrics,
and a love for good melody make for a sound that is innovative and
entrancing. Multi-instrumentalists with infectious stage charm, they
weave an intricate and sublime web of myriad musical textures. They
use vibrant percussive acoustic guitar, melodic bass, rich keys,
exuberant drums, and refreshingly sweet harmonies as a cover to
launch a sneak attack with lyrics about loss, death, rebirth,
eco-spirituality and armageddon.
Vivian's Keeper makes its home in Portland, Oregon, but has won fans
all over the country from tiny town coffeehouses to big city
festivals. Key to VK's mission is playing for the benefit of causes
that are central to their lives, particularly ecological protection
and queer rights. |

Solid Ground
|
VK's 3rd disc introduces
the exuberant drummer/percussionist Leila
Chieko to its originators of Adam Bentley and Joanna Agee.
"(solid ground) maintains
an atmosphere of uncertainty and
restlessness even as the music remains loose and nimble, darting and
somber. Never less than elegant and tuneful."
-Portland Tribune
"The best of what alternative pop has to offer."

despair & joy & harmony
|
This recording is from the
band's earlier incarnation as a duo. Guest
artists include Dave Carter on banjo and Tracy Grammer on fiddle and
harmony vocals.
"The mild mannered voices of Joanna Agee and Adam Bentley are smooth
and gentle. A perfect disguise to catch you off guard for the intense
songwriting that's prominent in their music. With gliding melodies
and open tuned instruments their CD, Despair & Joy & Harmony, is a
warm haven in which to rest your weary... More>>> |
