"One of the leading lights of the contemporary folk music scene" -Associated Press
On Blooming you will hear twelve Western-themed songs with musical shades of country, folk, bluegrass, folk-rock, pop, art-song and sounds of modern Americana music held together in a project that is full of personality and ease. Blooming was recorded live in the studio in Nashville, with Tim O’Brien, vocals, fiddle, acoustic guitar, mandola, banjo; Darrell Scott- piano, guitars, pedal steel, dobro; Byron House - bass; and Kenny Malone - percussion. Cover art by famed Western artist William Matthews. The song "Riding the White Horse Home" is based on a novel by the same name by Western author Teresa Jordan. "Branded Heart" and "Return to Rollins" reflect MacLeod’s knack for writing detailed stories with distinctive melodies in the style of the Carter Family.
Kate MacLeod has been hailed as one of the “Ten Acts to Watch” by the editors of the MusicHound Folk Essential Album Guide. Originally from the Washington D.C. area, she is based in Salt Lake City and tours throughout the United States and Europe. Kate's songs have been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows including “A Prairie Home Companion,” “River City Folk,” and the holiday program hosted by Judy Collins, “Peace on Earth.”
